Indie game "Dyson," a 2009 Independent Games Festival Grand Prize and Direct2Drive Vision Award nominee, needs a new name, and Direct2Drive fans get to pick it!


The contest is simple


Come up with a new name for Dyson that best encompasses the mood and themes of the game. All entries will be emailed to the developers, who will pick and announce the best name on or around Tuesday, September 29th. When the game releases on approximately October 20th, it will be titled with the winning name!


The person who submits the winning entry will recieve


  • A copy of the as-yet-to-be-renamed Dyson game
  • Any two digital PC games that D2D sells

Official Contest Rules


1. DESCRIPTION: NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. The "The Game-Formerly-Known-As-Dyson Naming" Contest ("Contest") begins at 12:01 AM PST on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 [US Residents]/ 8:01 AM GMT Wednesday 23 September [UK Residents] ("Start Date"), and ends at 11:59 PM PST on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 [US Residents]/ 7:59 AM GMT on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 [UK Residents] ("Contest Period"). The Sponsors of this Contest are IGN Entertainment, Inc. and the development team of Rudolf Kremers and Alex May (each a "Sponsor", and collectively the "Sponsors").

2. ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and Washington, D.C. and the United Kingdom who are at least 18 years of age at time of entry and who have internet access as of the Start Date. Any individuals (including but not limited to employees, consultants, independent contractors and interns) who have, within the past six months, held employment with or performed services for Sponsor or any organizations affiliated with the sponsorship, fulfillment, administration, prize support, advertisement or promotion of the Contest are not eligible to enter or win. Immediate family and household members of such individuals are also not eligible to enter or win. "Immediate Family Members" shall mean parents, step-parents, legal guardians, children, step-children, siblings, step-siblings, or spouses. "Household Members" shall mean those people who share the same residence at least three months a year. Void where prohibited.

3. HOW TO ENTER: To enter, visit the Direct2Drive web site during the Contest Period by logging on to http://www.direct2drive.com/staticpage.aspx?topic=dyson_contest or clicking through via the Featured Promotions links on http://www.IGN.com . Follow the on-screen instructions to submit a Contest entry via email to the dedicated email account at namechange@dyson-game.com. Entrant must comply with all submission requirements, as detailed below. Entry is not complete until entrant has followed all of the steps required for entry and confirmed they have reached the age of majority in the jurisdiction in which they reside. In order to be valid for entry, the contents of the email entry MUST include:

  • The entrant's complete and accurate contact information including: Full Name, Email Address, and Date of Birth.
  • Before sending, entrants must successfully include in their email entry an original name for the Game ("Submission"), created solely for Contest submission or their entry will be void. See Submission requirements below.

Submission Requirements


  • Each entrant is required to submit one (1) name for the Game-Formerly-Known-As-Dyson developed by Rudolf Kremers and Alex May (the "Game").
  • Submissions must be wholly original, and cannot infringe upon or otherwise violate any right of any third party.
  • All Submissions containing content that, in the Sponsors' sole judgment, is offensive or inappropriate will be deemed ineligible for the Contest and not considered in the judging.

All Submissions must be received during the Contest Period. Limited to one entry per person. Entrants must provide all information requested by Sponsor to be eligible to win. Incomplete, unreadable, or unintelligible entries will be disqualified. All information provided by entrants becomes the property of Sponsor and will not be returned or acknowledged. Proof of email does not constitute proof of entry. By submitting a Submission into the Contest, you represent and warrant to Sponsors that you have all rights necessary to submit the Submission into the Contest in accordance with these Official Rules.

Submissions must NOT:


  • Have been previously submitted to another Contest, broadcast on a competing media network or submitted to any entertainment entity that would conflict with this Contest, as determined in the Sponsor's sole discretion.

Any entrant whose Submission violates any of these requirements may be deemed ineligible to receive the prize and their entry may be void at the Sponsors' sole discretion. Materials submitted become the property of Sponsor and may not be acknowledged or returned. Incomplete or unintelligible entries will be disqualified. Sponsor reserves the right to determine in their sole discretion which entries have satisfied the entry requirements. ELIGIBLE ENTRANTS MUST SUBMIT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE OFFICIAL RULES. NO OTHER METHOD OF SUBMISSION WILL BE ACCEPTED.

4. JUDGING CRITERIA: The entries will be judged by a panel comprised of Rudolf Kremers and Alex May ("Judging Panel") of Omni Systems Ltd. The winning entrant will win prizes as further set forth below. This contest will be judged exclusively on creativity/originality and subject matter appropriateness. All decisions by the Judging Panel are final on all aspects of the Contest.

5. PRIZES: Grand Prize: One (1) winner ("Winner") will be selected to receive: i) one (1) copy of the Game; ii) two (2) games of the Winner's choice to be downloaded from Direct2Drive.com (the actual value of each game selected by the Winner must not exceed US$60/£34.65); and iii) the chance for their Submission to become the official title of the Game. Total estimated retail value of Grand Prize: US$150/£86.63. Prize winner cannot assign or transfer the prize to another person. No cash or prize substitution is allowed except at the discretion of Sponsor. All prizes will be awarded. If a prize cannot be awarded due to circumstances beyond the control of Sponsor, a substitute prize of equal or greater retail value may be awarded; provided, however, that if prizes are awarded but unclaimed/forfeited by recipient, prize may not be re-awarded, in Sponsor 's sole discretion. Other restrictions may apply. EXCLUDING ONLY APPLICABLE MANUFACTURERS' WARRANTIES, THE PRIZES ARE PROVIDED TO WINNERS "AS IS" WITHOUT FURTHER WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. SPONSOR DISCLAIMS ALL FURTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE WITH RESPECT TO THE PRIZES. IN NO EVENT SHALL SPONSOR BE RESPONSIBLE HEREUNDER FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL OR INDIRECT DAMAGES INCURRED BY ANY ENTRANT OR ANY THIRD PARTY EVEN IF SPONSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

6. WINNER SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION: Winner will be selected during a judging period conducted by the Judging Panel. Judging period will begin on or about Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 in the United States, and conclude the same day. Winner will be notified by telephone, email and/or overnight mail on or about Wednesday, September 30th, 2009. Selected winner will be required to respond (as directed) to the notification within 72 hours of attempted notification. The failure to respond timely to the notification may result in forfeiture of the prize and, in such case, IGN Entertainment may select an alternate winner based on the stated judging criteria. Winner may be required to verify address and to execute before a notary public and return within seven (7) days an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release covering eligibility, liability, advertising, publicity and media appearance issues, unless prohibited by law, and as may be applicable. Prize will not be awarded until all such properly executed and notarized forms are returned. While the Winner's Submission may be the one that best embodies the judging criteria as solely determined by the Judging Panel, the development team of Rudolf Kremers and Alex May shall not be obligated to use the Submission as the official title of the Game.

7. WARRANTY: By submitting your Entry, you represent and warrant to Sponsors that (i) the Submission is wholly original and does not infringe upon or otherwise violate any right of any third party, (ii) the Submission does not and will not violate any applicable laws, (iii) the Submission is not and will not be defamatory, libelous, or obscene, and (iv) no party other than you has any right, title or interest in and to the Submission or any part of the Submission.

8. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION/RELEASES: Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. All US federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of the Sponsors, which shall be final in all respects. By participating in this Contest and/or by accepting any prize that they may win, entrants agree to release Sponsors, their parent, subsidiary and affiliated companies, units and divisions and advertising and promotional agencies and prize suppliers; each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees; and each of these companies and individuals' respective successors, representatives and assigns (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all actions, claims, injury, loss or damage arising in any manner, directly or indirectly, from participation in this Contest and/or acceptance or use of the prize. Entrants authorize the Released Parties to use their name, voice, likeness, biographical data, city and state or territory of residence and entry materials in programming or promotional material, worldwide in perpetuity, or on a winner's list, if applicable, without further compensation unless prohibited by law. Sponsors are not obligated to use any of the above mentioned information or materials, but may do so and may edit such information or materials, at Sponsors' sole discretion, without further obligation or compensation. The Released Parties shall not be liable for: (i) late, lost, delayed, stolen, misdirected, postage-due, incomplete unreadable, inaccurate, garbled or unintelligible entries, communications or affidavits, regardless of the method of transmission; (ii) telephone system, telephone or computer hardware, software or other technical or computer malfunctions, lost connections, disconnections, delays or transmission errors; (iii) data corruption, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entry or other materials; (iv) any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by the prize or resulting from acceptance, possession or use of a prize, or from participation in the Contest; or (v) any printing, typographical, administrative or technological errors in any materials associated with the Contest. Sponsors disclaim any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participating in, or accessing or downloading information in connection with this Contest, and reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest should a virus, bug, computer problem, unauthorized intervention or other causes beyond Sponsors' control, corrupt the administration, security or proper play of the Contest. Sponsor may prohibit you from participating in the Contest or winning a prize if, in Sponsors' sole discretion, they determine you are attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, hacking, deception, or any other unfair playing practices of intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other players, Sponsors' representatives or the operation of the Contest. This Contest will be governed by the internal laws of the State of California, United States. Any and all legal actions or claims arising in connection with this Contest must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction within the United States. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST. SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, IGN ENTERTAINMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY FEES) TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.

9. PRIVACY POLICY: Any personal information supplied by you to Sponsors will be subject to IGN Entertainment, Inc.'s privacy policy posted at http://corp.ign.com/privacy.html .

10. PRIZE WINNER LIST: For the list of prize winners, available after Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 or a copy of these official rules, mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: "The Game-Formerly-Known-As-Dyson Naming Contest" Winner's List or Rules, IGN Entertainment, Inc., attn: Legal Department, 8000 Marina Blvd., Fourth Floor, Brisbane, CA 94005 (VT residents may omit return postage) by November 30, 2009.
