Episode 02: The Dream Reader
Bloody, broken, and near death, Afro awakes under the care of a mysterious and beautiful woman named Okiku. As she heals him, he dreams of his younger days as an orphan, saved from thugs, and trained among other orphans in a secret sword school led by a wise sword master. Still bent on revenge, he is a dark and quiet boy with few friends - save a charismatic student named Jinnosuke. Back in the present, a conspiracy is unfolding as we see Okiku communicating with the fanatic monks known as the 'Empty Seven' who seek the downfall of Afro (whom they call 'The #2' due to the markings on Afro's headband). At the end of the episode, Afro's mission, Okiku's conflicting emotions, and the Empty Seven's diabolical mission all collide in a fiery conclusion.
